Service Detail: Full Movement Overhaul

Restoring the heart of your timepiece to peak performance and precision.

What is a Full Overhaul?

Often called a "complete service," a full movement overhaul is the most comprehensive maintenance procedure a watch can undergo. It's akin to rebuilding a car's engine. Every single component of the watch's movement is disassembled, inspected, cleaned, and reassembled. This process is vital for maintaining accuracy, ensuring the longevity of mechanical parts, and preventing costly damage from worn-out lubricants and components.

We recommend a full overhaul every 5-7 years for most mechanical watches to keep them running flawlessly.

Our 7-Step Overhaul Process

01

De-casing & Diagnosis

The movement is carefully removed from the case. Initial tests are performed to benchmark its current performance.

02

Complete Disassembly

The movement is meticulously disassembled piece by piece, with each component placed in a specialized compartmentalized tray.

03

Microscopic Inspection

Every part is examined under high magnification to identify any wear, fatigue, or damage that could affect performance.

04

Ultrasonic Cleaning

Components undergo a multi-stage cleaning cycle in an ultrasonic machine with specialized solutions to remove all old lubricants and microscopic debris.

05

Reassembly & Lubrication

The movement is reassembled. Worn parts are replaced with genuine ones. Up to seven different synthetic oils are applied to specific points.

06

Precision Calibration

The reassembled movement is tested and adjusted on a timing machine in five positions to ensure it meets or exceeds COSC accuracy standards.

07

Final Quality Control

After re-casing, the watch undergoes final tests for water resistance, power reserve, and real-world performance over several days.

Service-Specific Questions

Yes, the mainspring is considered a "high-fatigue" component. As standard practice, we replace the mainspring during every full overhaul to ensure consistent power delivery and optimal amplitude.

A light, complimentary cleaning of the case and bracelet is included. However, a full cosmetic refinishing to remove scratches is a separate, optional service. We offer it at a reduced price when combined with a full overhaul.

This is a common challenge with vintage watches. Our workshop is equipped to fabricate certain components, such as stems and gears, by hand. For other parts, we have a global network of suppliers to source new-old-stock (NOS) parts.
